COALITION FOR EQUAL PAY
Since 1999, Equal Pay Day activities of the Coalition for Equal Pay have included community groups, women's groups, labor unions and the South Bay AFL-CIO Labor Council, the county's Office of Women's Policy and Commission on the Status of Women, and concerned individuals, primarily in Santa Clara County (CA).
The Coalition makes its own local plans and decisions, but is a part of the nationwide Equal Pay Day effort coordinated by the National Committee on Pay Equity (NCPE), a coalition of national organizations. NCPE also works to promote national legislation and to encourage state and local legislation and projects to narrow the wage gap.
The Coalition for Equal Pay also works year-round to help decrease the women's wage gap. The equalpay.info website is a project of the Coalition. A private sector project is being developed to recognize employers who have effective programs for ensuring that they follow the federal Equal Pay Act and relevant state laws, provide equal opportunities to women employees for training and promotion, and otherwise do their part to help erase the women's wage gap. Fundraisers include our famous car washes with discount prices for women drivers. (Annual activities typically cost less than $1000, plus several in-kind contributions.)
